The Bachmann manor: between dedication and intrigue
This route is tailored for travellers interested in the historical secrets of the region. Bus no. 17 and 18 as well as minibus no. 10 and 21 can take you to this location from the city centre. It is also possible to reach the Bachmann Manor by bicycle from the centre of Klaipėda by cycling down the bicycle path along the Danė River.
Historians have not yet fully uncovered all of he secrets of the Bachmann Manor, but it can nevertheless still surprise you with its intriguing stories. The footprints of the grandparents and parents of writer Simon Dach can be found in this very location. The route shall takes us on a journey through the confusing, yet noble history of the Boys Orphanage established by the Von Goes-Bachmann Fund, the love between the manor owner Von Koschklull and Ursula, the noble and generous idea of W. A. Rhenius, a Herrnhuter, and the history of the psychiatric hospital. Take the tour and find out whether the underground passages near the manor are still there and what unites the manor and the Klaipėda Brewery.
A significant number of the buildings of this Prussian manor still stand to this day and most of them were reconstructed during Soviet rule. However, a lot of time has passed and the buildings need further reconstruction.
