Object address: Martyno Mažvydo alėja, Klaipėda, Lietuva

Municipality: Klaipėda

Klaipėda’s identity token is its coat of arms, which has remained almost unchanged throughout the ages. It is the oldest heraldic symbol in the current territory of Lithuania. The range of use of Klaipėda’s heraldic symbol is very wide. This main symbol of the city decorates the City Hall, the Drama Theater and other buildings.

The fact that the coat of arms is an important and favorite symbol of Klaipėda citizens is illustrated by frequent application of its motif in small architecture. A bronze boy ‘Klaipėdietis’ leaning against the city coat of arms is displayed in Mažvydas Avenue. (Sculptor – Svajūnas Jurkus, architect – Vytautas Paulionis). The sculpture  ‘Klaipėdietis’ is a gift to the port city commemorating the 750th anniversary.
