The diameter of the oak tree is 1,2 m and it is 19 m high. It can be found in the central part of the park, near the Oginskis Mansion. In 1960, Perkūnas’ Oak Tree was declared a natural monument.
It is believed that this oak tree is one of the surviving trees from the holy forests of the pagan times. There is also very beautiful legend about Priestess Galinda’s love and the angry Perkūnas, who sent his bolt of lightning at this tree. Since then, the oak tree is named after Perkūnas.
The other legend says that Perkūnas hit this tree with a lightning bolt when the holy flame was put out after the Samogitians converted to Catholicism. The mark of lightning can still be found on the tree.
