Antanas Giedraitis-Giedrius, a teacher of Jurbarkas Gymnasium, and one of its founders; the initiator and editor of the first Lithuanian children’s magazine “Žiburėlis” (1920);  the  pioneer of children’s literature and the genre of literary fairy tales, lived in this house, next to his brother. His wife Iluminata Vasiliauskaitė was also a teacher, a writer and a translator, whose pen-name was Nemunas Bangelė. An oak tree planted for Vydūnas’ goddaughter Grožvyda Giedraitytei grows behind the homestead. A. Giedraitis’ brother Juozas also worked as a teacher and was vice headmaster of the high school. Antanas Giedraitis and his family retreated to the west in 1944, and the family of Juozas Giedraitis was exiled.
