Nerija Fort

In 1865, the construction of the Nerija Fort was started in order to fortify the entrance to Klaipėda Port. The fort was armed with guns before the construction was completed due to the beginning of the Prussian war with Austria. The construction was completed in 1873. However, soon, Nerija Fort lost its military significance due to the development of the rifle artillery. In 1897, the guns were dismantled.
