The Building on Herkaus Manto Street 5

The building on the former Libauer Str. 20, which was the home of the writer Ieva Simonaitytė in 1922–1924, did not survive to this day. In her autobiographical novel Nebaigta knyga (The Unfinished Book), she wrote: “The number 20 on Libauer street is a huge block building. It consisted of a three or even four-storey front building with several relatively large houses in the yard. All these houses had residents. On one side of the yard there was the storage, while on the other — small apartments.” This building also hosted all kinds of offices:  The book store of K. Naumann, the glass workshop and shop of E. Auge, the photo studio of the photographers C. Elwenspoek, I. Blaschy and M. Ehrhardt, the workshop of the clockmaker G. Bonin, the confectionery of A. Pertz and many more.
Currently there is a residential building and a shop (2017).
