White lighthouse

In 1834 Klaipėda Merchant Community started construction of the Northern mole. Construction took place intermittently. The first stage ended in 1858. The Northern mole was installed in two parts – the first part consists of 940-meter-long-quay, reinforced with stones; the second one consists of 2.5 meters wide and 2 meters high pier, protruded to the sea for 460 meters. Handling the port, in 1884 was finally completed the construction of the Northern mole, it was again extended to 2150 meters. The lighthouse, opened on 16 December 1884 at the end of the mole, spread red light. This lighthouse was called the White Lighthouse.
At the end of the South mole also a light-signaling device has been for some time. In 1927 in its place there was built a 7,35 meter tall lighthouse, which was 10 m above sea level. It glowed green light.
On the Northern and South moles there were built narrow-gauge railway rails, which were intended for service of the lighthouses (to transport coal to them) as well as for repair and maintenance work.
On 6 January 1931 Klaipėda Port Authority reported that in the Northern mole there was launched nautical phone, in foggy air emitting a warning sound signals for ships: long 3-second sound, followed by 0.5 seconds of silence, again a long 3-second sound, followed by 22 seconds of silence.
During the Second World War both lighthouses were destroyed.
