Municipality: Tauragė district

The building of the motor mill, built by Hiršas Gitkinas near Jūra River in 1922, is an architectural engineering object, protected by the state. The building is a timber-framing three-storey motor mill with a basement. At first, it was run by a steam engine, which was later replaced by an electric one. Up until World War II, near the mill there was a sawmill, which employed about 15 workers.
The timber framing building of the early 20th c. is an important object, which signifies the city’s development. The technological equipment inside is valuable as well. The top floor features two double sets of fine milling machines, the grain storage, fragments of the gearbox and a fragment of two elevators. One of the fine milling machines feature an inscription: MUHLEN BALANSTAL C.C. KAISER REIMELT LEIPCIG.
After the war this building hosted the Jūra mill, used for milling grain, cutting forest wood and wool combing. The mill was closed in the sixties and the building hosted a sewing shop, a tombstone workshop and a shop.
Even overgrown with various additional wings, the old building of the mill continues to dominate the entire shore of Jūra with its size. Unfortunately, the timber framing construction with red-brick filling was hidden under plaster in 1988. The front façade features the year of the establishment of the company – 1922.
