Monument “Kardas” (“The Sword”)

The graves of soviet soldiers, who died in Klaipeda and its surroundings at the end of the Second World War, nestled to the old cemetery from the north-west side. In 1975 there was unveiled monument. The authors of the monument – architect Petras Šadauskas and sculptor Rimantas Daugintis. Monument rises high in the sky – between the two shields there is overhung the lowered sword, which handle is crowned with wreath of oak leaves. In front of the monument – Eternal Flame; behind it the names of dead soldiers are carved in granite panel. In 1980 monument was supplemented by composition, created by sculptor R. Daugintis.
