Monument to Herkus Mantas

He was a leader of the Great Prussian Rebellion, which took place in 1260-1274. His name is given to the central street of Klaipėda city, next to which the site of 40×60 square meters is formed and the monument almost of four meters height is composed. There are used about 100 square meters of polished and trimmed granite for decoration of the square. Architect – Linas Jurgaitis. Red brick wall of the house became a background for H. Mantas‘s figure and well highlights its monumentality. Sculptor Vytautas Mačiuika in this work as well as in all his creations emphasizes ideal features of the personality, inner and outer beauty, not only physical, but also spiritual force of the commander.
