In the old cemetery of Smiltynė (Kopgalis) there is burried Liudvikas Stulpinas (1871-1934) – a pioneer of Lithuanian Maritime, the first Lithuanian sea-going captain. In 1885 he joined up to serve in the merchant fleet, in 1903 – graduated from Liepaja Maritime School. Since 1909 he was a captain of steamship „Lithuania“; after Lithuania became independent L. Stulpinas served as a consul of Lithuania in Liepaja. In 1923-1933 he was the Chief of Klaipėda port. The authors of the tombstone: sculptor – Regimantas Midvikis, architect – Adomas Skiezgelas.
